Core Interactions
This is the most important page in the entire wiki. StoryBoards keeps the canvas clean: you right-click to discover actions, hover a shot to open Create View, and drag and drop to move and assign items. These are the primary way you operate the app — not hidden power-user tricks.
The interface is intentionally minimal. Buttons and toolbars are kept to a minimum so the workspace stays clean. Almost every action lives behind a right-click context menu. If you are looking for a feature and cannot find a button, right-click the thing you want to act on. This is by design.
Right-click — discover actions
Right-click is the most important interaction in StoryBoards. Almost every element — projects, scenes, shots, notes, images — has a context menu that appears on right-click.
Typical right-click actions include:
- Add (a shot, a scene, a note)
- Rename, duplicate, delete
- Open in another view
- Reorder or move to a different parent
- Quick tools that would be too noisy as permanent buttons
If something feels like it has no button, right-click it first.
Characters, props, and backgrounds are not added from the Concept canvas. Create and manage them in the Story Inspector on the right (see below).
Hover a shot — Create or Edit
To generate or refine a shot image, hover the shot card. A control appears on the image:
- Create — the shot does not have an image yet
- Edit — the shot already has an image
Click Create or Edit to open Create View (the shot workspace). Do not double-click the shot. Double-click is not how you open Create View.
The same hover control works on the Board and on Concept.
Story Inspector — characters, props, backgrounds, styles
The right-hand Story Inspector is the place to add and manage this story's cast and production assets. It appears when nothing is selected, or when the story itself is selected.
Sections:
- Characters
- Props
- Backgrounds
- Styles
In each section:
- Click the empty tile to create a new item (New character, New prop, and so on). Entity Builder opens so you can name it and build its image portfolio.
- If the workspace already has unused shared assets, the tile can split into New … and From team library.
- Click a thumbnail (or right-click → Edit) to open that item in Entity Builder.
This is the correct path on both Board and Concept. Concept is a canvas for shots and notes — not for placing character, prop, or background nodes.
Click a project — open it
On the Projects dashboard, click a project card or row to open it. Right-click a project for archive, duplicate, and other actions.
Drag and drop — move and apply
Moving things around On the Board and on Concept, you can drag shots, scenes, and notes to rearrange them. Drag the empty canvas to pan the view.
Applying media You can drag images from the Asset Manager into drop zones in Create View — for example, dragging a reference image into the reference slot of an image generation mode.
Zoom and pan
On canvas-based views (Board in playground mode, Concept canvas):
- Mouse wheel to zoom in and out
- Click and drag empty space to pan
These controls match standard creative-tool conventions (Figma, Miro, etc.).
Keyboard shortcuts
- A — toggle the Asset Manager
- Escape — close panels, deselect
- Standard shortcuts (Ctrl/Cmd + Z for undo, etc.) work in text editors
