Concept View (Canvas Basics)
Concept View is the freeform canvas for ideation and planning. Use it to lay out shots and notes, explore pacing spatially, and work non-linearly before you lock a Grid review on the Board.
Think of it like
A moodboard for story beats:
- Lay out shots as frames
- Add notes for questions, references, and links
- Drag shots and notes around to explore order and clusters
Characters, props, and backgrounds do not live as nodes on this canvas. Manage them in the Story Inspector on the right.
How to navigate the canvas
Concept View is a canvas-based view. Treat it like a design tool:
- Mouse wheel: zoom in/out
- Drag the canvas: pan around to different areas
- Drag nodes: move shots and notes wherever you need them
What belongs on the canvas
- Shots: storyboard frames
- Notes: sticky notes for ideas, references, links (notes can include images)
Core interactions
- Right-click empty canvas: add a shot or a note
- Right-click an item: open actions for that type
- Hover a shot, then click Create or Edit on the image to open Create View (generate or refine the frame). Do not double-click.
- Drag and drop: rearrange shots and notes
Story Inspector (right panel)
With nothing selected (or the story selected), the Story Inspector lists this project's:
- Characters
- Props
- Backgrounds
- Styles
Create a new item from the empty tile, add one From team library when shared assets exist, or click a thumbnail to open Entity Builder. That is the same inspector used on the Board.
Best practice
- Arrange shots (story beats)
- Add notes for open questions
- Build cast, props, and locations in the Story Inspector
- Hover a shot and click Create / Edit to polish images
Concept View is great for early exploration; Grid Mode on the Board is often better for final review.
