Entity Builder

Entity Builder is where you prepare a story entity visually before using it in shots. For characters, it is the workspace for character details, generated images, uploaded references, sketches, voices, and direct image editing.

What Entity Builder is for

Use Entity Builder when you want to turn a story character into a reusable visual asset for this project — and, on Studio, for later episodes in the same workspace.

A character setup normally includes:

  • the character name
  • physical description
  • outfit details
  • the currently selected character image
  • a portfolio of generated or uploaded character images
  • optional voice creation

Images are the main working portfolio

The Images tab is the main place to build a character image portfolio. This portfolio can include:

  • images generated with Create Image
  • images uploaded manually
  • images saved from the Image editor
  • edited versions and variations of existing character images

The selected image is the character's current visual anchor. Other portfolio images remain available as references for later generation.

Create button actions

For characters, the Images tab Create button opens a small action menu:

  • Create Image starts entity image generation for this character
  • Image editor opens a blank editor scoped to this character
  • Create Voice opens voice creation for the character

For props and backgrounds, the Create button usually goes directly to image creation or the matching entity image workflow.

Create Image

Create Image is used when you want the AI to create new portfolio images for the entity. In story-scoped Entity Builder, character, prop, and background generation opens inline inside Entity Builder when possible, so you stay in the same workspace while the Asset Manager remains focused on the entity.

For characters, Entity Builder saves the current character details before starting Create Image so the prompt can use the latest name, description, and outfit.

Image editor

The Image editor is used when you want direct canvas control. You can open it blank from the Create menu or open it from an existing image. It saves back to the same character, prop, or background image collection, preserving editable project data when available.

Why this matters

Shot generation works better when entities have a clear portfolio before shots are created. Character Create Image builds identity photos — it does not paint the character in the project's illustrated Art direction. That split is intentional: portraits stay recognizable; the storyboard look is applied when you generate shots.

Adding someone from the Story Inspector

Create and manage characters, props, and backgrounds in the Story Inspector (right-hand panel on Board and Concept). It appears when nothing is selected, or when the story is selected.

  • Open Characters, Props, or Backgrounds.
  • Click the empty tile to create a new item (Entity Builder opens).
  • If the character already exists for the show, use From team library to link them to this episode. Unlinking from this story keeps them in the library.

Do not look for character, prop, or background nodes on the Concept canvas — those nodes were removed. See Asset Manager and Reusing cast and looks across episodes.

Practical tip

Before generating important shots, create or collect several strong images for the character. Select the best representative image, but keep useful alternates in the portfolio for pose, angle, outfit, and expression references.
