Characters: Troubleshooting
Character looks different between shots
Troubleshooting characters
Character looks different between shots
Common causes:
- the selected character image is weak or outdated
- the character image portfolio does not contain enough useful references
- inconsistent prompt descriptions
- contradictory outfit details across shots
Fixes:
- Open the character in Entity Builder.
- Select the best representative image for the character.
- Add stronger portfolio images with Create Image, uploads, or the Image editor.
- Simplify descriptions to essential visible features.
- Keep outfits consistent within a scene.
- Set up important characters before generating many shot images.
- In Create View, drag the portrait into a reference slot and use a / chip. Naming the character in text is not enough if the slot is empty.
See Reference-based generation.
Character name not recognized in prompts
- Use the
/chip method to insert characters when available. - Verify the name matches the character entry exactly.
- Avoid extremely similar names, such as Ann and Anne.
Works in close-ups but not wide shots
- Include one signature detail, such as a red scarf or distinctive hat.
- Keep prompts simpler in wide shots.
- Generate multiple variations and pick the best match.
- Use portfolio images as references when possible.
Characters look nothing like my descriptions
- Tighten the character description and outfit in Entity Builder.
- Create or upload better portfolio images that match the intended look.
- Select the image that best represents the character.
- Use the Image editor to clean up or adapt promising images.
Multi-character scenes look wrong
- Include positioning info: "JOHN on left, SARAH on right".
- Limit to 2–3 characters per shot for best results.
- Describe spatial relationships clearly.
- Use strong portfolio references for each important character.
