Create Image and Image Editor

Create Image and the Image editor are two connected ways to build an entity's image portfolio.

Use Create Image when you want AI to generate a new visual option. Use the Image editor when you want direct control over an image, such as editing, inpainting, outpainting, removing objects, changing pose, or creating a hand-built sketch.

Create Image

Create Image is the generation workflow for character, prop, and background images. It builds the entity's portfolio, not the storyboard look. Project Art direction applies when you generate shots on the Board / in Create View. Character portraits stay as clear identity references so the same person can be recognized inside whatever look you picked for the board.

In Entity Builder, the Images tab Create button starts this workflow. For characters, the button menu includes Create Image. For props and backgrounds, the create action usually opens the same entity image generation flow directly.

Create Image saves the result into the current entity's image collection. The image becomes part of the portfolio and can then be selected, edited, or reused as a reference.

Image editor

The Image editor is the canvas-based editing workflow. It can open blank for an entity or open from an existing portfolio image.

When opened from an existing image, the editor tries to load the saved editable project data for that image. If editable data exists, the layers and sketch state are restored. If not, the image is loaded as the starting raster image.

When saved, the editor writes back to the correct target:

  • character images save to the character image collection
  • prop images save to the prop image collection
  • background images save to the background image collection
  • existing images can be updated
  • Save and New can create an additional image in the portfolio

Inline Entity Builder editor

When the Image editor opens from story-scoped Entity Builder, it can appear inline inside Entity Builder instead of as a separate full-screen workspace. This keeps the Asset Manager focused on the current entity and avoids switching context while editing.

The inline editor uses the same save target as the full-screen editor. The difference is presentation, not storage.

Relationship between the tools

Create Image is best for producing new AI candidates quickly. The Image editor is best for improving or adapting those candidates.

A common workflow is:

  1. Generate several character images with Create Image.
  2. Select the strongest one as the current image.
  3. Open a promising image in the Image editor.
  4. Clean it up, adjust pose or composition, or remove unwanted details.
  5. Save the edited result back into the same portfolio.
  6. Use the final portfolio images as references for shot generation.

Practical guidance

Do not treat Create Image and Image editor as separate libraries. They both feed the same entity image portfolio. The goal is to build a useful set of visual references for later storyboard and shot image work.
