Creating Video Clips from Shots
Creating a new video in Ciaro can start from the Video tab, Board, or Playground. The exact entry point depends on whether you are already arranging clips on the video timeline or working directly on a storyboard shot.
The normal rule is still: use a good shot image or reference setup first, then turn it into video.
Main ways to create a video
1. From a timeline clip in the Video tab
Use this when a shot image is already on the Video timeline and you want the generated video to replace or continue from that specific clip position.
- Open the Video tab.
- Put the shot image on the timeline, or select an existing image clip.
- Right-click the clip, or use the visible Create Video icon on the clip.
- Choose Create Video.
- Set the model, duration, resolution, prompt, and references.
- Generate the video.
This is the most timeline-specific workflow because Ciaro knows which clip position you are creating from.
2. From the Create Video button in the Video tab
Use this when you want to start a new video creation pass from Production without first right-clicking an existing clip.
- Open the Video tab.
- Click the Create Video button near the top-right of the Video workspace.
- Choose or confirm the target shot.
- Place the new clip on the timeline when prompted by the create workflow.
- Set the model, duration, resolution, prompt, and references.
- Generate the video.
This opens Production's dedicated create-video mode. For normal timeline creation, the new video needs a timeline placement before generation can start.
3. From the Create Shot modal in Board or Playground
Use this when you are still working on a storyboard shot and want to generate video directly from that shot modal instead of switching to Production first.
- Open the shot in Board or Playground.
- Open the Create Shot modal.
- Switch the modal from image mode to Video.
- Choose the video model and settings.
- Write the motion prompt, or use the shot description as the starting point.
- Add supported references such as start/end frames, reference images, reference video, or reference audio when the selected model allows them.
- Generate the video.
When the shot already has a selected image and the chosen model supports it, Ciaro can prefill that image as the start frame. This route creates a video for the shot directly; it is not primarily a timeline placement workflow.
When Create Video appears
Create Video is shown when the selected shot or clip has enough source material for a first video generation pass. Most commonly that means a usable shot image, a start frame, or model-supported reference inputs.
If the selected clip already has a completed video, the next action often shifts toward Modify, Upscale, Reframe, Extend, Add audio, or Lipsync instead of creating the first video again.
What opens after you choose Create Video
Ciaro opens video creation controls for the current shot or clip.
Typical controls include:
- video model
- duration
- resolution
- motion prompt
- start and end frame controls when supported
- audio-related options when supported
- additional reference inputs for models that allow them
Start and end frames
Some models support start and end frame guidance.
This is useful when you want more control over where motion begins and where it should land. In practice, this can be more predictable than relying on a prompt alone.
Model-specific options
The video generation panel is not identical for every model.
Depending on the selected model, you may see extra controls such as:
- reference images
- reference video input
- reference audio input
- negative prompt
- camera-related controls
- native audio settings
- multi-shot prompt controls for supported models
That is normal. Video creation in Ciaro is a family of model-specific workflows under shared Production and shot-creation surfaces, not one fixed universal form.
Best prompt approach
Motion prompts usually work best when they stay concrete.
A strong prompt normally focuses on:
- what the subject does
- how the movement feels
- how the camera moves
Short, physical instructions are usually more reliable than long cinematic paragraphs.
Practical takeaway
If you want timeline control, use the Video tab: right-click an existing clip or click the top-right Create Video button and place the new clip on the timeline.
If you are still designing the shot in Board or Playground, use the Create Shot modal, switch to Video, and generate directly from that shot.
After a first video exists, use Modify and the other follow-up tools for new versions or finishing work.
