If you want dialogue to appear in your storyboard workflow, there are two common approaches depending on what kind of result you want.
1. Dialogue as shot text or description
Use this approach when you want the spoken content to be part of the shot's textual information.
This is usually the better option when:
- you want the dialogue captured in the shot data
- you want it to be reflected in structured exports such as PDFs
- you care more about documentation than visual bubble placement
2. Dialogue as speech bubbles on the image
Use this approach when you want the dialogue to appear visually inside the storyboard frame itself.
This is the better option when:
- you want the storyboard image to look more comic-like or annotated
- you want to place speech visually in the frame
- you need control over bubble position, size, and direction
Typical speech bubble workflow
When using speech bubbles, the usual workflow is:
- open the shot for editing
- go to the area where annotation or bubble elements are available
- drag a speech bubble onto the image
- edit the text inside the bubble
- adjust placement, size, and tail direction as needed
Which option should you choose?
Choose shot text/description when you want dialogue stored as part of the structured shot information.
Choose speech bubbles when you want dialogue presented visually inside the frame.
In some cases, users may choose both depending on whether they want structured export information and visual presentation at the same time.
