Project Notes

Notes are the practical knowledge layer inside Ciaro.

They help you store story logic, reminders, constraints, and reference information directly inside the project so that important context does not get lost while you work.

Why notes matter

Notes are useful for things like:

  • plot reminders
  • continuity rules
  • character motivations
  • visual references
  • prop details
  • background or location information
  • anything you want to remember later without searching through the whole project

They are also useful for AI workflows because they give the project more stored context.

Where notes can be added

Inline in the Script Editor

You can add notes directly in the Script Editor when the note belongs to a specific part of the script.

This is useful when you want the note to stay close to the exact moment, scene, or line it refers to.

In Playground view

Notes can also be created and managed in Playground view.

This is helpful when you want to work more visually with project knowledge and connect notes to the parts of the project they belong to.

Linking notes in Playground / Concept view

One of the most useful parts of the note workflow is linking a note to a target.

On Concept (and Board Playground), you can link notes to shots by dragging the link icon from the note onto the shot you want to connect it to.

Characters, props, and backgrounds are managed in the Story Inspector, not as canvas nodes. Entity-specific notes still belong on the entity in Entity Builder / the inspector, not as extra nodes on Concept.

Notes on entities

Notes can also live on specific entities such as:

  • characters
  • props
  • backgrounds

This is useful when the information belongs to the entity itself rather than to one place in the script.

For example:

  • a character note might store behavior, appearance, or continuity reminders
  • a prop note might store design rules or story significance
  • a background note might store location-specific details or visual constraints

Best practice

Use notes whenever important knowledge should stay inside the project instead of only in your head.

The more clearly notes are attached to the right script moment, shot, character, prop, or background, the easier it is to keep the project consistent as it grows.
